What is Android “L”?

Android L

Yesterday at Google I/O 2014 Google Announced the new Developer preview of the Latest release of the new Android L.
Sticking with Google’s new material design initiative, L brings many new UI changes. Putting a new interface for Gmail, Minimalistic new android buttons on a shift from square to round Icons. All of Google’s stock apps will eventually make the transitions with the new material theme, However for now the list is just limited to the most used apps such as the phone dialer.

Notifications are being spruced up to a new interactive access to the notifications in the lock screen. The notification pane in the lock screen are basically a view combined, Giving the new look similar to google now cards. A new dropdown to the notifications is being introduced like when you are using the phone, which gives you a heads up display with the upcoming notification.

The L preview will be available to developers later today, But the big question is after which L candy will they name it.
